FAQ

Do I need to be an experienced hunter?

Not at all. Many of our clients are first-time hunters. Our experienced Professional Hunters (PHs) will guide you every step of the way, from firearm safety and shot placement to tracking and field preparation.

When is the best time to hunt in South Africa?

The hunting season generally runs from March through September, during South Africa’s cooler, drier months. These conditions make wildlife easier to spot and provide comfortable hunting weather.

How many days should I book?

We recommend 7–10 hunting days for your first safari. This allows enough time to enjoy the experience, hunt several species, and account for changing weather or animal movement.

Can I rent a rifle?

Yes. If you prefer not to travel with your own firearm, we offer quality rental rifles that are properly sighted in and ready for your hunt.

Can I bring my own rifle?

Absolutely. We will assist you with the firearm import permit process before your arrival to ensure everything is prepared in advance.

What animals can I hunt?

South Africa offers one of the widest selections of plains game in the world, including:

  • Kudu
  • Impala
  • Blue Wildebeest
  • Gemsbok (Oryx)
  • Springbuck
  • Zebra
  • Warthog
  • Eland
  • Nyala
  • Waterbuck
  • Buffalo (on selected safaris)

Many other species are also available depending on the hunting area.

What should I pack?

Pack lightweight, neutral-colored clothing, a good pair of comfortable walking boots, a warm jacket for early mornings, a hat, sunscreen, binoculars, and any personal medication. We’ll provide a detailed packing list before your trip.

How fit do I need to be?

Most hunts require moderate walking over natural terrain. Every safari can be tailored to your fitness level, ensuring an enjoyable experience for hunters of all ages.

Is South Africa safe?

Yes. Your safety is our priority. From the moment you arrive, you will be met by your outfitter and accompanied throughout your safari. Our hunting areas are private, well-managed properties where guests can relax and enjoy the African bush.

What happens to the meat?

Nothing goes to waste. Venison is used by our lodge, local communities, or donated where appropriate, ensuring the animal is fully utilized.

What happens to my trophy?

After your hunt, your trophies are professionally prepared by a qualified taxidermy service. They are then shipped to the taxidermist of your choice or directly to your home country, depending on your preference.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that includes medical coverage, trip cancellation, and firearm coverage if you’re bringing your own rifle.

Can non-hunters come along?

Absolutely. Many hunters bring their spouses, family members, or friends. Non-hunting guests can enjoy game drives, sightseeing, photography, shopping, spa treatments, or simply relax at the lodge.

What is included in a hunting package?

Most packages include:

  • Luxury accommodation
  • All meals and beverages
  • Professional Hunter and hunting vehicle
  • Field preparation of trophies
  • Daily laundry service
  • Airport transfers
  • Hunting days as specified in your package

Trophy fees, taxidermy, shipping, gratuities, and international flights are generally quoted separately unless otherwise stated.

How much walking is involved?

Every hunt is different. Some species require longer stalks, while others involve short walks from the vehicle. Your Professional Hunter will tailor each day’s hunt to your preferences and abilities.

Will I have cell phone service and Wi-Fi?

Most lodges offer Wi-Fi, although it may be slower than you’re used to. Cell phone coverage varies depending on the hunting area, allowing you to truly disconnect and enjoy the African wilderness.

What makes a South African hunting safari so special?

A hunting safari is about much more than harvesting an animal. It’s about breathtaking sunrises, exciting stalks, incredible wildlife, world-class hospitality, delicious cuisine, lifelong friendships, and memories you’ll treasure forever. Many first-time visitors leave already planning their next safari.
